Interior lighting design
This service begins autumn 2026. We are taking early conversations now.
The rooms of a house deserve the same discipline we bring to its landscape. Whole-home interior lighting design is the next chapter of the studio, beginning autumn 2026: layered light for the rooms people actually live in, designed around the furniture, the art, and the hours of the evening.
Interior lighting in most houses is a ceiling grid of recessed downlights on one switch. It lights the floor and leaves the room without character. A designed interior works in layers. Ambient light that sets the base level of the room. Task light where the work happens, the kitchen counter, the reading chair, the desk. Accent light on the things worth looking at. The mix, and the ability to change it over the evening, is what makes a room feel considered.
How we will work
The method is the one we use outdoors. We read the plan and the furniture layout before placing anything, because light is designed around how a room is used, not around the ceiling grid. We set a brightness hierarchy for each room, choose fixtures and lamping to a single consistent color standard, and write scenes in plain language: dinner, reading, cleaning, goodnight. Then we document it so the electrician and the controls programmer can each build their part without interpretation.
The natural clients are the ones we already serve. Landscape architects whose projects include a new build or a major remodel, and installers whose scope runs indoors. The interior and the landscape are seen together through the glass every evening, and designing them together, to one color temperature and one hierarchy, is the point of holding both under one roof.
What you will receive
- A lighting plan for each floor, coordinated with the reflected ceiling plan
- A fixture schedule with lamping, color temperature, and dimming protocol
- Switching and zoning drawings the electrician can rough-in from
- Scene descriptions per room, controls-agnostic
- A focusing visit after installation to aim and set levels
Until autumn
Our landscape work continues as it is. If a current project has an interior scope arriving later this year, write to us now and we will plan the sequence together. The full outdoor service is described under landscape lighting design.
